Bilingual Wedding Storytelling Emcee (MC) & DJ · San Francisco Bay Area

I don't retell your love story. I rewrite it into the funniest part of the night, in two languages.

Anyone can repeat the details you wrote on a form. I find the joke hiding inside them, build it into something your guests quote for years, and memorize the whole thing so I'm telling your story instead of reading it off a screen.

Why couples pick Foksifu

Two families. Two languages. One unforgettable night.

At most bilingual weddings, one side ends up left out. The English side, or the Cantonese side. My whole job is making sure nobody does.

✍️

Rewritten, not paraphrased

Some emcees take what you wrote on the questionnaire and say it back in slightly different words. That's not writing, that's reading with extra steps. I look for the joke hiding inside the boring detail. Ben was just "always there when Thanh needed him," so at the wedding Ben became a 7 Eleven, because there's always one around right when you need one. Michelle was just "the friend Phillip vented to," so Michelle became 白姐姐, taking his call about his bad grades before his family found out. Danna walked straight to the bathroom the second she arrived at the restaurant, so that became Tony convinced his online date was escaping, wondering if he'd overdone the filters. Turns out she really did just need the bathroom. Same details you handed me, completely different story. That's the part that can't be copied, because it has to be built from scratch out of your specifics, every single time.

🔥

Memorized, not read

I have about 90% of your story in my head before I walk in. The script is there if I need to check a name or a date, but I'm not delivering your night with my head down in a screen. That's the gap between someone reciting your story and someone actually telling it. Same with the room. I read it live and keep grandparents, cousins, and college friends all locked in at once.

Officiant, emcee & DJ

The all in one bilingual wedding vendor. A licensed officiant for your ceremony, your bilingual host for the reception, and the DJ running the music. One person, one setup, seamless from "I do" to the last dance.

Foksifu, bilingual Cantonese and English wedding emcee, hosting on the microphone at a San Francisco Bay Area wedding
Meet your host

Hi, I'm Foksifu.

霍駿霆 · Cantonese & English Emcee

Born and raised in Hong Kong, I grew up bilingual in Cantonese and English. So I don't awkwardly switch between them at your wedding like a buffering video. I live in both at once. Your grandma and your college roommates laugh at the same joke, at the same time. Nobody's stuck politely nodding, pretending they caught it.

For 8+ years I've worked Bay Area weddings as a bilingual emcee, DJ, and licensed officiant. Basically your ceremony, your host, and your party playlist in one guy who only takes up one seat at the banquet. My favorite trick? Taking your real love story and rewriting it so it's actually funny. The "everyone's crying and laughing at the same time" kind, not the "uncle found the mic" kind.

If you're planning a Chinese American wedding and need a Chinese American wedding emcee who can hold the Cantonese table and the English table at the same time, this is exactly what I've spent 8+ years doing.

From Napa vineyards to San Francisco banquet halls, the mission never changes: make sure both sides of the family feel like the whole night was built for them. And yes, I'll pronounce every relative's name correctly. In both languages. I practice.

I also take the outfit seriously. Every single event. You can scroll through my videos and see a different fit each time because I actually put thought into it. If your guests are going to remember the emcee, he might as well look the part.

"Jason was our Cantonese and English MC and DJ at our wedding banquet. He had great charisma and enthusiasm. My Cantonese wasn't very good, so he even helped translate my English speech to Cantonese as I gave it. Professional, flexible, decent price — I would totally book him again."

"I can't thank and praise Jason enough. We were looking for someone who spoke Cantonese and English for our wedding in Sacramento. After getting quotes, speaking with various MCs, and seeing their work, we decided to go with Jason."

"He was very personable and easy to work with from the very beginning. We stayed in touch over Zoom, text, and email as the date got closer to hash out every detail. As my now-husband and I weren't sure how wedding-day schedules realistically flow, we trusted his insight — he listened to exactly what we wanted and respected our wishes, which we greatly appreciated.

On the big day, Jason and his assistant arrived early to set up. At one point guests kept asking me when the banquet would start and I had no idea, so I tried calling him from across the venue. He didn't pick up — but he immediately came straight over to ask what I needed!"

Frequently asked questions

Can you cover both the ceremony and the reception?

Absolutely. I can officiate your ceremony myself as a licensed officiant. Or, if a friend or family member is marrying you, I'll just run the ceremony audio so their words are actually heard. Either way, I then host and DJ your reception, switching between Cantonese and English so every guest feels included from "I do" to the last dance.

Are you a licensed wedding officiant?

Yes. I'm licensed to legally marry you and perform your ceremony in both Cantonese and English, whether you're getting married in San Francisco, the East Bay, San Jose, Sacramento, or anywhere else in the Bay Area. Most couples who want a fully bilingual day book me as a package: officiant, emcee, and DJ, one person from "I do" to the last dance. That's The Whole Day package at $2,500.

Are you a Chinese wedding officiant?

Yes. As a native Cantonese speaker and licensed officiant, I perform ceremonies in Cantonese and English. Most couples book me as an all in one package: Chinese wedding officiant, emcee, and DJ for the full day. That's The Whole Day package at $2,500.

Can you be the emcee at a Chinese American wedding?

Yes, and it's most of what I do. A Chinese American wedding is exactly the room the bilingual format is built for. The usual setup is a guest list split down the middle, with Cantonese speaking parents and grandparents on one side and cousins and friends who grew up here and only speak English on the other. Both sides get the same story, the same games, and the same energy. Nobody sits there nodding politely waiting for someone to translate.

Can you emcee a multicultural wedding?

Cantonese and English is my specialty, and a bilingual wedding is already two cultures sharing one room. If one side of your family is Chinese and the other isn't, the format works the same way, nobody sits there waiting for a translation. I also host Paebaek ceremonies for Korean families. Let's get on a quick call first so I know which traditions matter to you and who needs to hear what in which language, then I build your run of show around that.

What areas do you serve?

The entire San Francisco Bay Area. San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Clara, and all of Silicon Valley, Oakland, Sacramento, Napa, and everywhere in between.

Do you emcee weddings in Silicon Valley?

Yes. I cover all of Silicon Valley, including Santa Clara, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, and San Jose. I travel to your venue wherever it is in the South Bay, no extra charge for core Bay Area locations.

Where can I find a bilingual Cantonese and English wedding emcee near me in the Bay Area, Fremont, or San Jose?

Right here. If you're in San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Fremont, Union City, Milpitas, Mountain View, Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore, or anywhere in the Bay Area, I travel to your venue. Check your date and I'll confirm availability same day.

How much does it cost?

Reception emcee + DJ (with GigBar dance lighting) is $1,860. Add ceremony audio, perfect when a friend is officiating, and it's $2,200. Want me to officiate too? The whole day is $2,500. À la carte: ceremony audio $350, emcee only $900, DJ only $960.

What makes you different from other bilingual emcees?

Most emcees translate. The ones catching on now paraphrase, meaning they take what you wrote on the form and say it back in slightly different words. I look for the joke hiding inside the detail and recast it as something else, so the boring fact and the punchline turn out to be the same fact. Then I memorize about 90% of it, so I'm telling your story, not reading it. The honest measure of whether it worked is the aunties and uncles. They're the toughest crowd in the room, they've sat through a hundred of these, and they're the ones who come find me afterward to say how good it was.

What's so unique about Foksifu compared to other wedding MCs and DJs in the Bay Area?

A few things. Most bilingual emcees translate, and a few have started paraphrasing love stories back to couples in slightly different words. I actually live in both languages, so the humor doesn't get lost in the switch, and I write your story properly instead of restating it. That means finding the joke hiding inside your details and recasting it as something else, so the ordinary fact and the punchline end up being the same thing. I memorize about 90% of it so I'm not reading off a screen. During the shoe game, I pull personalized questions from what your speakers literally just said at the mic, so the couple gets surprised by their own story. I build a custom love story trivia game your guests actually care about. And if you want one person for the whole day from ceremony to last dance, I'm a licensed officiant. It's a different level of preparation, and I do it for every couple who books me directly, even when my weddings are back to back.

Are you a native Cantonese speaker?

Yes. I was born and raised in Hong Kong, so Cantonese and English both come naturally. No scripted phonetics, no awkward pauses.

How do you write the Cantonese parts of a bilingual ceremony?

I write every ceremony script from scratch, in real Cantonese. Not Google Translate. Not GPT. Not a template with your names dropped in. Machine translated Cantonese has a very specific sound to it, and every native speaker in that room clocks it instantly. Your grandma will know. So I write your vows and your ceremony words the way a person actually talks. I've had guests who grew up in Hong Kong come find me after the ceremony just to tell me the Cantonese was right. That's the bar.

Can you host a Hong Kong style wedding banquet?

Yes. I grew up in Hong Kong and moved to California when I was 12, so HK banquet culture is in my bones, not just something I researched. I know the pacing, the games, how a 12 course banquet flows, and how to keep the energy right between courses. If you want the night to feel right to your parents and grandparents who flew in from Hong Kong and know exactly how these evenings are supposed to run, I've got that. That includes leading the yam seng (飲勝) toast the way it's supposed to feel, not just shouted on cue. And I'll do it in both Cantonese and English so your local friends aren't left out either.

How do I check if my date is available?

Book a quick call, fill out the inquiry form below, or text me at (925) 876-6029. I'll confirm availability and send package details the same day.

How do I plan my wedding reception timeline?

Start with my free bilingual wedding banquet timeline tool. It lays out a realistic run of show for a Cantonese and English reception, from grand entrance to last dance, in a format you can hand straight to your photographer and venue. Free, no sign up needed.

Do you MC Chinese wedding banquet games?

Yes, and they're some of my favorite moments. I host the shoe game, also called the newlywed game, in both Cantonese and English, and I actually listen to your speeches first. So when the game starts, I sneak in personalized questions built from real moments your guests just talked about at the mic. The couple never sees it coming. I also get your guests racing to find a specific item before the music stops, and run a custom love story trivia game your guests built themselves. Everything stays fun, fast, and on schedule in both languages.

Can you run a custom wedding trivia game?

Yes. I build a custom love story trivia game for each couple, with questions only their guests would actually know. I host it live in both Cantonese and English during the reception. It's not a generic wedding trivia template. It's your story, your guests, and nobody's seen the questions before. Just mention it when you reach out and I'll build it into the timeline.

Can you host a Paebaek ceremony?

Yes. I host Paebaek ceremonies on top of the reception. I'll guide the couple and families through the ritual, keep it moving, and run it bilingually so every guest knows what's happening and why. Just mention it when you reach out and we'll build it into the timeline.

How far in advance should I book?

The sooner the better, since I only take one wedding per date. Most couples book 6 to 12 months out, but reach out anytime. If your date is still open, it's yours once you're booked.

Do you speak Mandarin too?

I'm fluent in Cantonese and English, that's my specialty. My Mandarin is basic, so if you need a fully trilingual host, let's hop on a call first to make sure I'm the right fit for your day.

Do you travel to Sacramento, Napa, and the whole Bay Area?

Yes. I cover the entire Bay Area and beyond, from San Francisco and San Jose to Sacramento and Napa wine country. I come to your venue, wherever it is.

Do you offer wedding karaoke in the Bay Area?

I do, and it's always a hit. Karaoke is $650 on top of any package. Add a projection screen for $800 and I'll put the lyrics up on a big screen so every guest can follow along and sing.

What's the difference between a wedding emcee (MC) and a DJ?

A DJ plays music. An emcee (also called an MC) hosts the event. That means announcing toasts, cueing dances, keeping the timeline moving, and keeping the room engaged between songs. Most DJs who "also do MC" are reading names off a sheet and calling it hosting. I'm primarily a bilingual emcee who also handles the DJ side, so you get a genuine host and a real DJ in one person, no coordination needed between two vendors whose vibes don't match.

Do I need a separate emcee if my DJ is already on the mic?

Depends on what "on the mic" means. If your DJ can hold a bilingual room in Cantonese and English, tell stories, run banquet games with real energy, and keep your grandparents and college friends laughing at the same time, you probably don't need me. If it's someone announcing table numbers in one language and calling it hosting, that's a different story. Most couples who've been to a wedding with a real bilingual emcee will tell you the difference is obvious.

What does it mean to book an all in one wedding vendor?

One person, if you can swing it. Two separate vendors means two people who've never worked a wedding together, figuring out song cues and timeline live for the first time on your actual day. When it's one person handling both, there's no handoff and no guessing who's cueing what next. That's the whole point of my Reception package, one bilingual host running the mic and the music together all night.

How much does a wedding DJ cost in the Bay Area?

DJ only is $960. Most couples add bilingual emcee hosting to it. That's the full Reception package at $1,860, and it includes GigBar dance lighting. One person, one setup, one consistent energy through the whole night.

How much does a bilingual wedding MC cost in the Bay Area?

Emcee only service is $900. Most couples add DJ service to it, which is the Reception package at $1,860 and includes GigBar dance lighting. If you want me to cover the ceremony too as a licensed officiant, The Whole Day package is $2,500. One person for everything, no juggling two vendors who've never worked together before.

How much does a bilingual wedding officiant cost in the Bay Area?

I don't sell officiant service on its own. It's bundled into The Whole Day package at $2,500, which includes ceremony audio, licensed officiant, reception emcee, and DJ, one bilingual person for your entire wedding day. If a friend or family member is officiating instead, I can just run ceremony audio for $350 and handle the reception separately.

What is a bilingual wedding?

A bilingual wedding is one where the ceremony or reception is hosted in two languages so every guest can actually follow along, not just nod politely. For a Cantonese and English wedding, every announcement, toast, and game lands for both your Cantonese speaking grandparents and your English speaking friends. Nobody's stuck on their phone wondering what just happened.

Is there a travel fee?

Core Bay Area venues are included, no extra charge. Farther out spots like Sacramento, Davis, or Napa usually run about $200 extra for travel. A few venues also tack on a small fee regardless of distance, mostly when parking is a nightmare. I look at each booking individually and always quote the exact number upfront before you book, never a surprise on the invoice.

What's your deposit and rescheduling policy?

I require a $600 deposit to lock in your date, and it's nonrefundable. If your plans change and you need to reschedule, that's totally fine as long as I'm free on the new date, your deposit just carries over. The only time I refund it is if I genuinely can't make your new date work, in which case you get it back.

What happens if you're sick or can't make it?

I have a backup team for exactly this. If something ever keeps me from showing up, a DJ from my team will be there to run your reception, guaranteed. I also have a backup bilingual emcee who can step in and handle a Cantonese and English event properly. You're never left scrambling the week of your wedding.

Do you charge extra if the reception runs late?

A few extra minutes is never a problem. If a song needs to finish, it finishes. If you actually want to extend the night, overtime is $200 per hour. One thing to know: clear it with your venue first, because they're usually the ones with the hard cutoff, not me.

Do we get a planning meeting before the wedding?

Always. I sit down with every couple about a month before the wedding, and two weeks out at the absolute latest. We go through the timeline together piece by piece, so on the day itself nothing is a surprise to either of us.

How do you handle the bridal party introductions and grand entrance?

I help build the lineup with you ahead of time, then I pull the whole party together for a quick huddle right before the grand entrance. Thirty seconds of making sure everyone knows the order, who they're walking with, and where to go. That's the difference between a clean entrance and a confused one.
